SUMMARY:Educational Session: Principles of Health Literacy Throughout a Clinical Trial Lifecycle with Rosemary Meister
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our March educational event!\nAbout the Session:\nThe World Health Organization (WHO) defines health literacy as the ability to obtain\, read\, understand\, and use healthcare information. It plays a vital role in our capacity to navigate complex medical information and the healthcare system with confidence. When we understand medical instructions\, prescriptions\, nutrition labels\, and health education materials\, we are better equipped to take charge of our own health. Health literacy is a two-way street. The burden of limited health literacy should not lie solely on the individual. Health care organizations can adopt strategies to address health literacy and make it easier for people to use their services. \nThis session will provide an overview of health literacy principles and where they intersect at each phase of a clinical trial lifecycle. We’ll explore: \n\nOrganizational health literacy and the role of medical writing\nInfluence of health authority regulations in this space\nPatient advocacy\nHealth equity\n\n\nHave a scheduling conflict? Don’t worry -a recording of the presentation will be sent to all registrants after the session!\n\nRegistration is now open! Click here to secure your spot! \n\nMeet the Speaker:\n \nRosemary (Ro) Meister is a medical writer with over 20 years of pharmaceutical\, biotech\, and CRO experience. After a longtime interest in reaching the patient audience\, Ro transitioned from regulatory medical writing to disclosure and transparency about a year ago. She is skilled in regulatory and clinical document development and is now building on her passion for translating complex medical information into language understood by lay persons. Ro has an English degree from Dominican University just outside of Chicago. She enjoys collaborating across different plain language working groups through DIA and attending relevant conferences within the quickly evolving transparency space!
